Located in Dallas, TX, the grand scale of the Winspear Opera house and the innovation of the Wyly Theater are embraced by a landscape defined by clean lines interspersed with plantings to soften the edges.
The Dallas Center for Performing Arts project included 3 key site elements around which the exterior spaces were organized. These included the Winspear Opera House, the Wyly theater, and the Annette Strauss Square.
The entrance to the Wyly theater posed an interesting challenge to the design team. The need to provide ADA accessibility and retain the simple, clean, linear site lines of the DCPA resulted in the structured planter forms above.
The reflecting pool outside of the Opera House's main entrance is designed to align with the grid of the canopy above.

The vine grid on Annette Strauss's northernmost wall was designed to break up the concrete expanse alongside the exterior lawn space. Stainless steel cables were patterned in a design form to replicate the pavement and opera house canopy grids.
